Statement by Kathy Murray My imagery references the natural world and often translates into real or imagined landscapes. I enjoy creating by improvising new places and spaces out of familiar subject matter, and I am drawn to vibrant color and dramatic composition. Primarily a painter, I find the medium of monotype appealing for it's spontaneity and directness of artistic expression. I use ordinary materials such as coffee filters, wax paper, plastic wrap, garden weeds, old flowers, and vegetables as starting points for prints. Subsequent layering and overall composition is influenced by my occupational training as a graphic designer. |
