Collage
is a medium I use to make sense out of these fragmented times we
live in:
I want to know more about how to find spirituality in a world where
people are constantly at odds over who has the goods on God. I want
to know more about how to find a sense of humor in an era when
predators are regularly become celebrities. I want to understand
more about how the commodification of daily life works, and how to
escape a corporate fate when someone is always on the make to sell
us something, no matter how broke or broken we may be. I want to
understand something about innate perseverance, and just how it is
that we keep going every day, despite the barrage of information and
advertising all around us.
The questions are big & the answers are complicated. In the pages of
commercial magazines & catalogues, one finds a mirror of our world -
a nascent century full of the things that scare us, the things that
comfort us, & things to buy. I hope that by cutting apart these
images & rearranging them, I can find a little handful of optimism,
& reflect it back, show a better side of the story, maybe even tell
a little joke…
